Clock on-site using a POS system, desktop or tablet device
If you're a retail worker who uses a POS system or an office worker, your business may have set up browser clocking so you can clock in for your shifts. You will clock in using either an on-site POS system, a desktop computer, or a tablet.
In this guide, we will go through how you can clock using browser clocking, including:
- Details you need to know before you clock in
- How to clock in
- Clocking your breaks
If your business uses the Employee App for clocking, please refer to this guide. If your business uses the Clock App on an iPad, please refer to this guide instead.
Preparations for browser clocking
Before you clock in on your POS system or browser, you will need to know 2 things:
- Your Employee ID number
- Your Clock Passcode
Starting your shift
Once you have your Employee ID number and your Clock Passcode, you can start your shift at the rostered time, or if you're requested to come in earlier or for an unrostered shift. When this happens, you will need to add a comment explaining why you're working outside of your rostered shift times.
To Start Shift:
- Enter your Employee ID and select the 'Tick' button.
- Then enter your Passcode and select the 'Tick' button.
- If you have a rostered shift, this will appear on the page. Press the 'Start shift' button to start your shift.
- If you are clocking in early or late for your shift, you may need to enter a reason. Please provide as much detail as possible in the box provided, as any comments will be reported to your manager.
- From this screen, you will also see any rostered paid and unpaid breaks.
- If you are clocking in early or late for your shift, you may need to enter a reason. Please provide as much detail as possible in the box provided, as any comments will be reported to your manager.
- If you haven't been rostered (i.e., you were called in), you will not see any rostered hours when you start your shift. You may need to select the relevant roster from the drop-down box and provide your manager with a comment explaining why you started an unrostered shift.
Providing information to your manager
When you start or end your shifts, you may be asked to provide additional information to your manager. These fields are mandatory and can happen for a few different reasons, including:
- When clocking in/ out early or late to your shift
- Starting an unrostered shift (if you are called in)
- Answering questions set by your manager
- Providing reasons when you haven't clocked for a break
Taking your breaks
You can clock both paid and unpaid breaks, including those that have been rostered or for any unrostered breaks when necessary.
If you work split shifts on the same day, it is important that you check your upcoming shifts, so you know when to:
- Start or end a break
- End your first shift and start your second shift
To clock for a break:
- You can clock in and out for breaks if required by logging back into the browser and selecting 'Start break'.
- If your managers have rostered your break times, you will be prompted to select which rostered break you would like to take.
-
If you do not have any breaks rostered, you will be prompted to select either a Paid break or an Unpaid break.
- Once you have started your break, you will notice a timer at the top of the screen:
- If your break times have been rostered, the timer will count down until your break is complete.
- If you are on an unrostered break, the timer will display the amount of time you have taken.
- To end your break, select End break.
Ending your shift
Ending a shift is done when you are looking to complete a shift; once done, no further breaks or comments can be added for this shift.
To End Shift:
- To clock out of your shift, log back into the browser and select 'End shift'.
- If you are clocking out early or late for your shift, you may need to enter a reason. Please provide as much detail as possible in the box provided.
