Requesting leave as a casual
As a casual worker, you typically do not accrue most forms of paid leave since only permanent employees (both full-time and part-time) qualify for these benefits.
However, you may be entitled to request unpaid leave, and in that situation, your employer may require you to submit a leave application.
Casual leave entitlements can include:
- Unpaid Carer's Leave
- Unpaid Compassionate Leave
- Unpaid Community Services Leave
- Leave without Pay (LWOP)
- Long Service Leave (paid, once eligible)
For more information about your rights as a Casual Employee, please refer to this article from Fair Work.
Apply for leave
The first step to using leave is figuring out where it's located in your app. All updates and requests related to leave are handled from this one convenient spot.
To request leave:
-
From your home page, there are a few different ways to get to the Leave page:
- Using the Quick Menu at the bottom of your screen: Quick Menu > Time Off > Leave.
- Using the Main Menu at the top of your screen: Main Menu > Time Off > Leave.
Select the Apply for Leave button (this will put you into the workflow; skip to Step 3).
-
From the Time Off page, select the type of Leave you would like to use for your request or the + button.
Note: Your leave balance might not be displayed; instead, you'll see an eye symbol. This indicates that your employer has chosen to withhold your balance from view. However, this does not stop you from submitting a leave request. -
Select the relevant day(s), then Confirm x days to continue. If a partial day is required, select the 'Take partial leave on last day' toggle. For more information on how to submit a partial leave application, see our guide here.
- Review and complete the following:
- The requested leave type will be highlighted; if needed, you can change it here.
- Specify the amount of leave per day.
- Provide a Reason for leave.
-
Once you have confirmed your leave type and entered a reason, select 'Use XXXX Leave' to continue.
-
Review your leave application and confirm the details are correct.
Note: If any hours are incorrect, you can edit them per day here. - Once reviewed, select 'Send Request' to submit your application.
Your manager will then receive a notification to review the leave application. You will be informed of the result via email or SMS. This includes whether:
- Your leave has been approved, or
- Declined (with a reason if declined)
Furthermore, you can update any of your upcoming leave requests if needed. After you make your changes, your application will be forwarded to your manager for review.
